Can a boy from the country and a guy from the city ever make it work? Adam Chambers has never seen eye-to-eye with his father and is reluctant to take over the family’s property-development company. To clear his head and work out what he wants to do with the rest of his life, Adam leaves his responsibilities in the city and heads out to see the country. He isn’t much closer to deciding what to do with his life when he arrives at one of Australia’s largest events, the Tamworth Country Music Festival, and meets Joey Callaway. Since Joey’s father’s tragic death left Joey the family’s debt-ridden pub, Joey has struggled, desperate to turn the business around and give his mum the life she deserves. A break away from the pressures of running the pub is just what he needs, and a hook-up with Adam is the perfect way to forget about his troubles. The one-night stand might just be an opening act. If Adam and Joey can follow the music in their hearts, perhaps they can heal each other and create a melody that will last a lifetime.

Rustic Melody Volume 1 Nic Starr Books

Set in a small university town a couple of hours from Sydney, Australia, this is the first of a series which I gather will center around the restaurant/bar/lodge that ginger Joey Callaway owns and manages with his mum. They are the center of the story, which is why it's so shocking to realize that it's Adam Chambers, a well off young man who is indulging in wanderlust with his guitar in order to find himself--and get away from his domineering father--who is on the cover. (Well, I won't hold it against the author--Adam apparently is a super guitar player with a beautiful voice, if we are to believe Joey).

This one is a sweet, sometimes angsty, sometimes silly, tale of a struggling widow and her ambitious but overwhelmed (by work) son who get lucky in a way when that son, Joey, is sent away by his mum for a little vacation to the regional country music festival up the road a bit. (Yes, there is country music in Australia). There he bumps into Adam, who is contemplating his future which he has decided will not include working for the family real estate development firm because his father is such a bastard, and unethical to boot. Except Adam keeps postponing decisions and can't quite seem to get his act together--until he meets Joey and his eyes are opened and his lower extremities come awake.

This is a scorching, but still somewhat subdued, romance which is viewed mostly from Joey's side, and that is because Adam reveals very little of what he is thinking. Joey is easy to read and he has a plan, and Adam is complex and unsure of himself, but he has lots of plans to sort out first. Thank goodness they start working on plans somewhere along the way.

This is a relaxing, sometimes frustrating, but in the end totally likeable beginning to a series in which one of the MCs in the next book is introduced literally at the end. Getting that sequel when it's published.

I was not disappointed with Nic Starr's new release. Joey and Adam's story was beautifully written from beginning to end. I read it in one sitting not able to stop until I finished. The love Joey and Adam come to share is a love everyone should have in their life. The obstacles they have to overcome to be together show their true character. Please don't pass up this story. I know you will fall in love with them just like I did.
Put your own desires and life choices first.
Don’t live your parents expectations.
Lead with your heart.
Always be kind.

Loved it!
Nic Starr is a must-buy author for me and Rustic Melody was a lovely story. Enough tension, with Adam's father and Joey's pub, to keep the story interesting but not a lot of angst. I would love to read more about Adam and Joey and their cafe on the North Coast. And I thought perhaps there might be a story for Tyler who pops up at the last minute. Home town boy returns, hmm? Another winner!
I have a place in my heart for Aussie love stories and Rustic Melody is another one I will be rereading many times in future. Nothing only was I treated to a wonderful story about 2 Aussie guys, one from the city who is trying to find himself and one from the country who wants his life to begin, the backdrop of the country music festival set the scene perfectly. A great read with characters I easily fell in love with. Will be looking forward to the next installment.
I really enjoyed he story of the country pub owning Adam & wandering city guy Adam. I think what I liked most about this book was that is authentically Aussie. I have read a few other Australian authors and to me they always seemed to lay the "Aussie" on a bit too thick. I found that Nic Starr had the perfect blend of slang without going overboard. Too me, it read as real, which I loved. It's a sweet tale about family, finding yourself & love. I look forward to reading the remaining books in the series. I happily recommend.
Despite an authentic Australian vibe to the surroundings and dialogue and a promising premise this story really dragged for me. Scenes were bogged down with stilted phrasing and superfluous detail, like every action of each man separately taking a shower (and not in a fun way). I didn't really feel any connection between the two MCs and skipped through the bedroom action which is never a good sign. I didn't feel any real interest in their romance and barely made it to the end.
